How to Calculate the Difference Between Two Dates

The date difference calculator computes the exact span between any two calendar dates. It breaks the result into years, months, and days, and also shows totals in days, weeks, hours, and business days. This is useful for project planning, contract durations, and personal milestones.

Total Days = (End Date − Start Date) / 86,400,000 ms
Business Days: Exclude Saturdays and Sundays from the total count.

Understanding Business Days

Business days (also called working days) exclude weekends — Saturday and Sunday. Many industries use business day counts for delivery estimates, legal deadlines, and payroll calculations. In India, some sectors also work on Saturdays, so check your specific requirements.

Year-Month-Day Breakdown

The breakdown first calculates full years, then full months from the remaining period, and finally the leftover days. This gives an intuitive human-readable duration like "2 years, 3 months, 15 days."

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the date difference calculated?

The calculator finds the exact span between two dates by computing years, months, and remaining days. It also shows the total in pure days, weeks, hours, and minutes.

Does it count the end date?

By default, the end date is excluded (e.g., Jan 1 to Jan 3 = 2 days). Toggle 'Include end date' to count it as 3 days.
